Corrosion began as an alternative club night at the Winter Gardens in Morecambe on 1 April 2017, with DJs playing EBM, darkwave, new wave, alternative 80s, glam rock, punk, goth, cybergoth, industrial and more. Live music wasn't part of the original plan, but that changed on 4 November 2017 when Auger became the first band to play a Corrosion event.
As the club night grew, so did the venues. Corrosion moved to The Exchange in 2018 before finding its current home at the Alhambra Theatre in March 2019, a venue ideally suited to both live music and club nights. Alongside the regular club nights, the annual Corrosion New Year's Eve event began in 2017 and continues today.
September 2019 saw the first collaboration between Corrosion and McGothicfox Promotions, presenting Gothzilla and The Webb at the Alhambra Theatre. The success of that event confirmed what had already been discussed – the time was right to create an international indoor festival in Morecambe.
CorrosionFest took place for the first time on 14 March 2020. Just one week later the live music industry came to a standstill as the UK entered lockdown. Although the pandemic forced cancellations and socially distanced events, Corrosion returned in 2021 before the focus gradually shifted towards developing CorrosionFest and, later, Bats in the Attic.
Although regular club nights concluded in 2024, Corrosion continues through its annual New Year's Eve event and remains the foundation on which CorrosionFest and the wider Corrosion Events Group were built.
