McGothicfox Promotions was established in 2018 to promote a performance by Ariel Maniki and the Black Halos from Costa Rica at The Musician in Leicester. Although it began with a single event, it marked the beginning of an ongoing commitment to promoting contemporary goth and dark alternative music.
After regularly attending the Corrosion Club night in Morecambe, discussions soon turned to the possibility of promoting more live music. Those conversations eventually led to the first collaboration between McGothicfox Promotions and Corrosion, presenting Gothzilla and The Webb at the Alhambra Theatre in September 2019.
The success of that event helped lay the foundations for CorrosionFest, first held on 14 March 2020, and later Bats in the Attic. Since then, McGothicfox Promotions has played a central role in developing both festivals, building relationships with artists, promoters and audiences throughout the UK and Europe.
One of the strengths of McGothicfox Promotions has always been its international outlook. Friendships formed through festivals such as Dark Skies over Witten in Germany have helped introduce overseas artists to UK audiences, while a close working relationship with promoters in Germany continues to create opportunities for bands to perform across Europe.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Gothicfox predates McGothicfox Promotions by many years. It began as my username on a Leicester City supporters' message board, combining two lifelong interests—goth music and Leicester City, whose teams are known as the Foxes.
Later, Gothicfox became my nickname in the radio-controlled banger racing world, with my cars carrying the name from 2008 onwards. One of those cars even caught the attention of Alice Cooper, who signed it after seeing it and commented on how much he liked it.
When Donna and I began promoting live music, it felt natural to build on a name that had already been part of my life for years. The "Mc" came from Donna's surname, McLeod, creating the name McGothicfox Promotions.
